To measure PG&E's performance, we need to log all power outages--even short ones. Please make a Power Outage Report.

You can make a difference in Burlingame by donating a special service or item that isn’t funded in the city’s normal budget. If you wish, you can make a contribution in someone else’s honor or to commemorate a family or neighborhood celebration. Community groups are also invited to consider donating these improvements.
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
– The Burlingame Beautification Commission and City Council have adopted a new program to add trees to those streets that have few or no trees and have identified locations where over 100 trees can be planted. Donations for materials can be made for any number of trees, with the Parks & Recreation Department providing the planting and administrative costs. Estimated cost: $35 per tree.
Park benches and picnic tables – Burlingame has many beautiful facilities and settings, including the main library, City Hall and numerous public parks. Park benches and picnic tables give visitors to these settings a chance to relax and enjoy a conversation or observe nature. City benches and picnic tables are made from a very durable recycled plastic. They measure 6 to 8 feet long, and the tables are all wheelchair accessible. Benches cost $1,000 and tables cost $1,400.
– To enjoy the joy of reading and writing poetry, a talented California poet leads one workshop for grades 3-5 and another for grade 6-8 at the library. Children write their own verses, read with a microphone and even create a group poem. $300 per workshop.
Family Fun Nights – Six summer evening enrichment programs for the whole family feature high-quality performers, including “Magic Dan,” puppeteers, folk singers and theater groups that bring art, imagination and wonder to enthusiastic audiences. $350 per program.
Multicultural Program – Recent programs have included Persian folk tales and Irish songs and country dancing. $250 each.
Children’s Book Week – A storyteller will spin lively tales from popular children’s books. With humorous asides and handicraft projects. $350.
Children’s Book Replacement – With a circulation of 12,000 children’s books per month, the Children’s collections wear out quickly. A contribution of $3,000 would allow us to update our science and technology books.
Enhance the Children’s and Adult Media Collections – Our library has one of the lowest numbers of DVD’s for public for a library our size. We would like to increase the collection significantly over the next 2 years. Contributions in any amount would be welcome! Total needed: $ 10,000.00.
Adult Author Programs – The library has begun adult programming once again. We would like to bring local authors into the library twice a year. To bring two major authors to the library per year would cost $3,500 for two programs.
One Community/One Book – Last year, the Peninsula Library System and the San Mateo County Library partnered to bring the community a series of programs over 4 months surrounding the book by Khaled Hosseini “The Kite Runner.” The program was a huge success attracting over 3,000 people. This year our author will be Isabelle Allende speaking October 11, 2007! The book will be “Daughter of Fortune,” a compelling novel of immigration to California during the Gold Rush. Our portion of funding for this program is $3,000. The funding is used for local programming, publicity and multiple copies of the book. Book plates can be inserted in donor supplied books.
