Dear Friend:

Dress up your pet—and yourself—and come to the second annual Burlingame Pet Parade on Broadway this Sunday, September 25! If you don’t have a real pet, bring a stuffed animal!

The parade will start at 11:30 a.m., when pets and pet owners will march up Broadway with music provided by the Burlingame High School Band. Broadway will remain closed for a Street Festival from 12 to 1:30 p.m. that features booths staffed by local schools, Scout troops and community groups. The Peninsula Humane Society will bring its mobile pet adoption van, and Broadway merchants will offer special promotions. The Burlingame Lions Club will serve a barbecue lunch.

If you want to compete for one of the great prizes offered by local merchants, please come at 10:45 a.m. to the parking lot next to the Pick of the Litter Thrift Shop at 1127 Chula Vista (near Broadway). There is no fee for participation and no advance registration is required.

Prizes will be awarded for most interesting pet, most interesting pet costume, most original float or wagon, best dressed pet, best dressed owner/pet combo, best dressed group and best banner. There will also be one grand prize winner.

The parade is sponsored by the Broadway Merchants Association and cosponsored by the Burlingame Lions Club and the Daily Journal.

For complete rules and pictures of last year’s parade, see http://www.burlingamepetparade.com/. Those interested in having a booth at the parade may contact Jean Silveira at (650) 344-4945 or email her at jlsilveira@aol.com.

Ready for the Big One?

Hurricane Katrina was a giant wake-up call for many of us. It pointed out the importance of having enough food and water on hand for at least 72 hours.

You’ll find a helpful list of suggested supplies, emergency contact information and tips on coping with other difficulties on the city’s Web site at http://www.burlingame.org/Emergency%20Information%20for%20Residents.htm

It’s a good idea to print out a copy and keep it in a safe place.

Quick Tip: Find Cheap Gas

The American Automobile Association has launched a Web site that will help you find the least expensive gas station close to you. Just go to http://www.aaa.com/gasprices, fill in your zip code and select a location anywhere in the U.S.

Cheers,
