Dear Friend:
Hope you are enjoying the season! As you browse for those last-minute gifts, please remember to Shop Burlingame!
In the spirit of the holidays, I invite you to take a look at the 2006 Community Wish List for San Mateo County that has just been posted on my Web site at www.terrynagel.com.
The list features hundreds of new and used items desired by 23 San Mateo County nonprofit organizations. It includes contact information so that you can donate directly to the organizations. Each nonprofit has agreed to provide a written acknowledgment for each donation within 30 days that you can keep on hand for tax purposes.
Catastrophes such as the tsunami and Hurricane Katrina have diverted attention from the needs of organizations serving local communities, which count on your support.
The idea of the Wish List is simple. Instead of asking for checks, nonprofits list items they need that others may have on hand or wish to purchase new. People find pleasure in giving tangible gifts—particularly if these are discarded items that are taking up room in closets.
I started a Burlingame Wish List last year to assist nonprofits serving Burlingame. I expanded it to a countywide list this year when other organizations asked to be included.
Items needed by these organizations range from bottles of shampoo and dustpans to conference tables and used cars. Some are requesting services, such as designing a Web site or knitting baby clothes.
My sincere thanks to Janice Prey Wolfe jpwpaint@aol.com]
a Burlingame illustrator who spent many hours designing the Wish List last year and this year, and to Stephen Hamilton of Crescent Creative, ] who maintains the Wish List on my Web site.
You have no doubt heard the good news that Virgin America plans to brings its headquarters to Burlingame, creating 350 jobs in the city and 2,000 jobs in the area. The airline has just received $10 million in job training funds from the state. A number of people have asked where they can learn about job openings. It’s still early, but as jobs are posted, you can view them here: www.virginamerica.com.
Your city and your county can use your help! Burlingame is accepting applications for one seat on the city’s Planning Commission through January 3. Applications for the central seat, which was formerly held by ex-County Supervisor Mike Nevin, are due at 5 p.m. on December 30. Details are available at www.samtrans.com.

If you email me, I’ll send you more details.
