Dec 03, 2007

Dear Friend:

Thanks for your support in the recent Burlingame City Council! As in 2003, I was the top vote-getter by a substantial margin. I am pleased that people appreciate the work I’ve done. You can see the final certified vote results on my Web site.

Changing of the Guard

My new four-year term officially begins tonight. You are most welcome to come to the City Council meeting at which the council transition is made. It will begin at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 501 Primrose Road. Our newest council member, Jerry Deal, will be sworn in at the meeting. (I have chosen not be officially sworn in; my former oath still holds.) Outgoing Council Member Russ Cohen also is scheduled to make some remarks. I spoke at the last meeting when the mayor transition took place; it’s Russ and Jerry’s turn to be in the spotlight.

I am very grateful to all of you who worked on my campaign. I think we are still recovering from all that walking, talking and phoning! I will continue to be available to you and pledge to always try to do what’s best for Burlingame.

Get Involved!

I invite you to get involved in our wonderful community. There are many opportunities to give back to our city. Please visit the Volunteer Opportunities page on the city’s Web site to learn about some of them.

In addition, I am looking for help with the following projects. Please contact me if you would like to find out more about them.

Community Wish List – This online resource at www.communitywishlist.org  matches people who have items to donate with nonprofit organizations that need them – and helps keep things out of the landfill. We need help in keeping the content current and in publicizing the Wish List.

Neighborhood Network – For the past year, the Poppy Drive neighborhood has organized for emergency preparedness and also has held some fun neighborhood events. Early next year, we’ll show other neighborhoods how to start their own networks. If you are interested in starting one, please let me know. Click here to read more about the Neighborhood Network concept.

Burlingame Pet Parade – Volunteers started this event just to have an excuse to dress up their pets and have fun. We will begin planning the fifth annual Burlingame Pet Parade in just a few months. It will be held Saturday, September 27, at 10 a.m. on Broadway. We invite you to help with the planning, logistics and publicity.

December Activities

Lots of exciting events will take place this month in Burlingame. Don’t miss out on the fun!

Just for Fun

Finally, here’s a bizarre Web site that lets you watch in real time via three Webcams as you control thousands of Christmas lights and other holiday decorations on Alek Komarnitsky’s Colorado home: www.komar.org/christmas/

Enjoy the season!
