At this busy time of year, I want to remind you about some important dates coming up.

June 3 is Election Day!

Don’t forget to vote this Tuesday!

I’m supporting Jackie Speier for U.S. Representative and Jerry Hill in the State Assembly race and urge you to vote on these measures as follows:

Prop 98 – No
Prop 99 – Yes
Measure O – Yes

To see a complete list of my recommendations for the June 3 election, visit my Web site at http://www.terrynagel.com/Election_Recommendationspage582.htm

If you have an absentee ballot and haven’t turned it in yet, you can turn it in at your usual polling place, any City Hall in the county or at the county Elections Office at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo. For answers to other frequently asked questions about voting, see http://www.terrynagel.com/Voter_Q_&_Apage574.htm

June 4 is the Centennial Gala Deadline!

You can buy tickets to our city’s giant birthday party up until this Wednesday at noon at the Recreation Center at 850 Burlingame Ave. or by calling (650) 558-7300 . To view the invitation, go to http://www2.burlingame.org/Centennial_Gala.pdf

The Centennial Gala on Friday, June 6, will be the party of the century! It starts with hosted hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m. and includes a gourmet dinner with wine, birthday cake, music and dancing, a champagne toast and souvenir flute, and a spectacular fireworks show.

This will not be a boring evening filled with speeches. There will be tales told about bygone days and entertainment by comedian Danny Marona, whose name graced the Hyatt Hotel marquee for 12 years. Our emcee for the evening will be Diane Dwyer, anchor of NBC11 News, who graduated from Burlingame High. Although some people will be dressing in costume, no special dress is required. Just come prepared to have a good time!

Guests will also receive a copy of a special limited edition program that is designed to be a keepsake of the evening. It contains historical facts about our city, amusing anecdotes about some memorable characters, a record of “Extraordinary Burlingamers” who have lived or worked here, our city’s unique lingo, a list of historic places and more.

All proceeds from Centennial events will be donated to worthy city projects.

Come to Art in the Park June 7-8

You’ll be able to purchase extra copies of the commemorative program, along with Centennial T-shirts, sweatshirts, mugs and more at Art in the Park next Saturday and Sunday. Our city’s annual arts and crafts festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days in Washington Park and includes a youth activities corner, an expanded food court and a music stage with live bands.

Green Ribbon Volunteers

Our city’s Green Ribbon Task Force needs your help! We are looking for volunteers to assist with creating content for the city’s Web site to help local residents and businesses reduce carbon emissions and promote more sustainable habits. Another subcommittee of the Task Force is looking into ways to promote greener transportation alternatives. If you would like to work with us or suggest some helpful information to post on the city’s Web site, please let me know.

Other News

Our city’s Safeway Working Group is narrowing alternatives for a new store at El Camino Real and Howard Avenue. To keep informed about the group’s progress and meetings (which the public is welcome to attend), go to the city’s e-News sign-up page at http://www.burlingame.org/Index.aspx?page=21 and check “Safeway Working Group Update.” Be sure to request the city’s e-newsletter, too.
