Dear Friend:
I’ll be sending out my election picks newsletter next week. In the meantime, I want to make sure you know about some events this weekend:
All block captains and those interested in forming Neighborhood Networks are invited to a coffee on Saturday, October 10, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Burlingame Recreation Center at 850 Burlingame Ave. Coffee, fruit and pastries will be served.
At this meeting, we’ll invite those present to report news about their neighborhood groups, and we’ll give an update about citywide communication plans. Our special guests will be members of the Burlingame Police Department, who will provide an inside look at what happens when a crime is reported - and what citizens can do to discourage criminals from preying on their homes.
RSVP to info@theneighborhoodnetwork.org. For more information, visit www.theneighborhoodnetwork.org.
The semiannual book sale held by the Burlingame Library Foundation will be held through Sunday, October 11, in the Lane Community Room on the lower level of the Burlingame Public Library at 480 Primrose Road. Admission is free.
On Friday, the sale runs from 4 to 7 p.m. On Saturday, it will start at 10 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Sunday is the “Bag of Books” sale when you can fill up a full grocery bag of book for just $6 a bag. The Sunday sale starts at 1 p.m. and concludes at 4 p.m.
All proceeds from the book sale go toward programs, collections and materials to support the Burlingame Public Library.
Donations of books are received year-round at the circulation desk.
If you still dont have enough to do this weekend join the Family Fun Bike ride for the last ride of the year. These rides, for ages 3 - 93 are co-sponsored by the Citizens for a Better Burlingame, Summit Bicycles, Prestons Ice Cream & Le Croissant. They are held every 2nd Satruday of the month from May to October.
The bike ride starts at 10am in the parking lot of the Broadway CalTrain station across the street from the Summit Bicycle shop on California Drive.
The route goes over the new Broadway Bicycle-Pedestrian Overpass, and then cruises along the Bayfront bike path for about a mile to the small City park next to the beautiful Anza Lagoon.
For the return trip the ride retraces the route, ending up at Preston’s on Broadway for FREE ICE CREAM for all the kids and free coffee and goodies for the adults at Le Croissant. More information is available at the CBB website.
See you around town!
