Local organizations are looking for items ranging from bedroom furniture to hand towels, from flat-panel monitors to grocery bags and from a projection screen to movie tickets. Nonprofits provide important services to many residents of our county and would appreciate your help. All of them would welcome the gift of your time if you wish to volunteer to help them in their important work.

How the Wish List Works

The idea behind the Community Wish List is simple. Instead of asking for checks, local nonprofit organizations have listed items they would like donated in order to serve the community better. People find pleasure in giving gifts to others—particularly things that might go to waste. Donors can claim a deduction on their taxes for the contributions, too, to the extent they are legally tax-deductible.

Once you identify an item you would like to donate, here’s what to do:

Contact the individual listed at the end of the organization’s Wish List to make arrangements for the donation.

After you make a contribution, you should receive a written acknowledgment and thank-you letter within 30 days. Keep this letter on file for when you do your taxes.

If you don’t receive an acknowledgment within 30 days, please contact Terry Nagel directly at (650) 347-3576 or email terry@terrynagel.com.

As items are contributed, organizations will update their Wish Lists online.

If you are aware of other San Mateo County nonprofit organizations that should be included in the Wish List, please notify Terry.

Acknowledgments

Many thanks to Anne Hennegar for designing the online Wish List using open-source code. Additional thanks to Alex Veech for helping enter the information and to Peter Tucker for designing the logo. And many thanks to you for contributing to these organizations and for helping to make our county a better place to live.

The idea of the Wish List is simple. Chances are you have on hand some items that nonprofit organizations in our county can put to good use, or perhaps you would like to buy something new that’s on one of their lists.
